who is Jeffery Hency?

My Teaching Ministry

Jeff has spent literally a lifetime (well, he isn’t dead yet – you know what he means) studying Scripture.  It began with nightly Bible stories as a child which fed his inclination toward the Biblical narratives.  He eventually studied academically where he earned degrees in psychology, music, homiletics, hermeneutics, and Biblical Studies – with a focus on Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament).

Jeff has pastored in multiple denominations, including American Baptist Churches, United Methodist, Free Methodist, Wesleyan Church, a local independent church, and is ordained (retired) with the Church of God – Anderson, IN.

He has taught in local churches and at the college level with Anderson University, Indiana Wesleyan University, and Ohio Christian University.

Jeff continues to study independently with appreciation for academic mentors like: N. T. Wright, Christopher Wright, Steve DeNeff, Raymond Brown, and rabbi Mordechai Becher, among a host of others. He attempts to read perspectives from conservative and liberal Christian scholars, Jewish scholars. and non-religious scholars for fresh insights to help understand more fully God’s written Word (revelation).

Jeff attempts to respect traditional views of Scripture while helping his listeners explore deeper understandings that often challenge traditional views but offer a greater appreciation for God and His revelatory history.

If there is such a thing as a ‘Scriptural life-verse’,  Jeff’s would be Colossians 1:28 “…teaching everyone in all the ways of wisdom to present everyone mature in Christ.”

If you want to be challenged to know more about God, then Jeff may be able to help in your search for knowledge.  He wants this site to be a safe place to study,  with a respectful tone for differing thoughts, and a desirable place to help you grow intellectually and ultimately, spiritually in your pursuit of knowing God.

Jeff is married to Roz, and has two adult children by birth, Nathanael and Charissa, and a son, Matthew, through marriage to his daughter.  He is grandfather to Kenlee, Selah, and Holland.
